Day One

My visiting son and I just spent an hour trying to set this thing up. I am computer challenged but love to write and express my thoughts so he convinced me to try a blog.

My mother is 92 and has Alzheimer's disease. She lives in an assisted living, lock-down facility. My husband and I retired and moved to Florida to be near my mother to help care for her. My sister also lives in Sun City Center and we share the responsibility for mom.

Today I took her for a ride in the car. Since she is in a wheelchair and it is very difficult to get her in and out of the car, we went to a drive- thru- fast food place so I wouldn't have to deal with the wheelchair. Had a cheeseburger and chocolate shake and she was in heaven! While sitting there she was admiring the pretty flowers on the hibiscus bush in front of the car. We put in a cell-phone call to my brother who had a nice chat with her. She told him, "I just had the most delicious sandwich that I picked off of a bush!" Needless to say, he was a bit confused. The mind of an Alzheimer's person is a curious thing.
